1. Confirm work requirements
   • Digitised design file, of not more than six colours, is selected and specific requirements of the article to be embroidered are established
   • Material and equipment requirements are determined and accessed
   • Any special requirements to complete the embroidery are established

applying workplace health and safety requirements for a production environment applying basic sewing machine skills using computer basic operations accessing an embroidery design assembling and attaching hoop applying hooping techniques using hooping accessories using and loading needles selecting and loading thread using stabilisers reading interpreting and following information on work specifications standard operating procedures and work instructions and other reference material maintaining accurate records communicating within the workplace sequencing operations meeting specifications clarifying and checking taskrelated information

Required knowledge includes

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit	It is essential that competence be demonstrated in preparing fabric for final stitching on an embroidery machine The candidate must be able to select correct hoop identify fabric properties select stabilisers toppings and backings stitch the embroidery Evidence should demonstrate the candidates ability to prepare fabric for final stitching on an embroidery machine through production of sample pieces using woven nonwoven knitted lightweight and heavyweight fabrics
Context of and specific resources for assessment	Assessment may occur on the job or in an appropriately simulated environment and requires access to work areas materials and equipment and to information on workplace practices and OHS practices The resource requirements for this unit include access to embroidery machines single and multineedle computer equipment software machine hoops a range of fabrics a range of threads a range of needles hooping accessories
Method of assessment	This unit may be assessed independently or in combination with other relevant units Assessment methods may include written and oral questioning completion of practical activitiestasks
Guidance information for assessment	Assessment processes and techniques must be culturally appropriate and appropriate to the language and literacy capacity of the candidate and the work being performed
